Community Project: Hospital Kitchen Makeover

Home Concept are very proud to have recently participated in a joint community project with the JD Group/Bradlows and the Charlotte Maxike Academic Hospital in Johannesburg – Occupational Therapy Department.

The hospital’s occupational therapy department runs an initiative called “Cooking with Gadgets” to help empower patients living with disabilities.

Patients learn how to cook and bake, the programme is designed to boost their confidence in everyday tasks, show them that nothing is impossible and encourage independence.

Being a supplier to JD Group/Bradlows for over 23 years, Home Concept jumped at the opportunity to give back to the community that has supported them.

We required all hands on deck to deliver an amazing kitchen makeover to the patients for the finals of “Cooking with Gadgets” (18 October) in a short space of time.

The whole team immediately got to work – taking measurements, finalising designs, manufacturing, ordering supplies, clearing out the space, painting, checking electrical points and installing to ensure that everything would be ready on the day of the finals.

It was all worth it to see the contestants’ reactions. It was a complete surprise and everyone was very excited to see the new set-up and to get cooking!

The patients very quickly felt at home and it was amazing to see their confidence spike with a brand new kitchen to work in and show off their talents.

We are honoured to be involved in such an amazing project and to give back to the community.

Home Concept has supplied over 25 000 kitchens in South Africa over the past 23 years. Our active involvement is our way of giving back to and supporting our communities.
